Most people around Columbia call us about window film in June. The living room is baking, the thermostat is losing, and something has to change before August. Then October comes, the heat backs off, and the film moves to next year’s list.
Here’s the part that gets missed. The Carolina sun doesn’t stop working on your house in the fall. It just changes how. And the same LLumar film that keeps July heat out is doing a second job across the Midlands the day it turns cold.
Fall sun sits lower, and that makes the glare worse
By mid-October the sun drops closer to the horizon. That means it comes in sideways instead of overhead — straight through west- and south-facing windows, straight into your eyes at three in the afternoon.
If you have ever squinted through a football game, given up on the sunroom by four o’clock, or moved a chair because you could not see the TV, that is a fall problem, not a summer one.
Low-E film works in both directions
This is the piece worth understanding before you spend a dollar.
Standard window film reflects solar heat away from the glass, soLow-E window film keeps summer heat out and winter heat in. What LLumar film does for Columbia and Midlands homes after the summer ends. less of it gets into the house. On our own residential window tinting page we put the number at up to 70% of incoming solar heat stopped before it reaches the room.
Low-E film adds the other half. It reflects infrared energy, the invisible part of light that carries most of the heat, and it does that whichever side the heat is coming from. In July, that keeps the sun’s heat outside. In January, it keeps the heat your furnace made from walking straight out through the glass.
Glass is the weakest point in most South Carolina homes for exactly this reason. It is a thin sheet between a heated room and a cold yard. Low-E window film gives it something to push back with.

The fading does not take the winter off
Ultraviolet light is the part of sunlight that bleaches your rug, dries out leather, and turns a hardwood floor two different colors where the sofa sat.
UV levels drop in winter. They do not go away. And low winter sun reaches deeper into a room than high summer sun does, which is why the fade line on your floor moves in January.
LLumar film creates a barrier that blocks up to 99% of ultraviolet light. That protection runs every day of the year, on every window that has it, without you touching a thing.
The same barrier is doing something for your family, too. Direct sun through glass ages skin and dries it out, and a sunroom in October gets plenty of direct sun.
Fall is a practical time to get it done
Window film goes on in about a week from the time you approve the job. There is no manufacturing lead time to wait out and no exterior work weather can push around — our installers work inside your house.
Doing it now means the film is on the glass before the first cold snap, and it means you are not calling us in June with everyone else who waited.
If glare is the problem in a specific room rather than heat, interior roller shades solve it a different way, and we can price both on the same visit. If it is your storefront or office rather than your house, that is commercial window tinting and the Low-E options are the same idea at a larger scale.
You see the film on your own windows before you decide
Here is the part that separates this from every other quote you will get.
We do not ask you to drive to a showroom and imagine it. Our showroom comes to you. We bring the sample book to your living room, hold the films against your actual glass, in your actual light, at the time of day the problem happens. You look through them. You pick.
Then we take on-site measurements while we are there, so nothing gets guessed.
Every installation is done by our own crew — Erasmo, Drew and the rest of the team, with more than 75 years of combined experience between them. We have never subcontracted a job. The person who measures your windows works here, and so does the person who installs the film.
